Today I wanted to try and line by using feel rather than the tip as a guide. Honestly…I LOVE it so much more. I felt so much more in control.

I also wanted to work on blending a little. The blues I took were Prizm Sky Blue, into blue, into blue cut with white, with a little white around some edges.

All lining was 5r and color and shading was done with a 5 mag.

That’s looking good, bro :) Something I like to do, is shading black and grey style first of all before adding color, just to add that extra dimension :)

Thanks. This one “felt” right. Still isn’t perfect but a nice step in the right direction.

I actually shaded before coloring on this one. I didn’t want hard black in the color and made a wash. I’ll post up when it heals and we’ll see what happens with it.

I think I’m done on me for a bit…my thighs hurt. :) Hard to not get excited and want to keep going.

If it felt right, that’s all that matters, and the best thing to go by :) I wasn’t sure if you had shaded, simply because you mentioned the color blending, but it’ll be good to see once it’s healed :) I know that feeling, I’ve pretty much run out of space on my thighs which I can add ‘small bits’ to, because everything else is so specifically planned, but I’m sure I’ll be able to squeeze in a few more pieces :D

I agree your in the right direction. You may wanna slow down and make the color more saturated so the blue and light blue really are separated from each other when you blend them. The Blue looks too spotted. When working with color-coloring remember dark to light. This may include several different shades of blue. Just clean up your line work, maybe even do a white spot high lite on the eye to just give it that last *bam!* touch. 8-)

Overall your in the right direction and can see you getting much better at the pace your going. Your idea of not using a hard black for shading is smart. I dont remember what you said your using as your gear. What are you using?

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it a lot. To hear I’m headed in the right direction is a confidence booster. You are right on the speed I’m working…I need to slow down when I’m tattooing for sure. I’ve finally recognized it and fixing it. That is how I learn…do it, mess it up, don’t do it again. :)

My gear is basic. My wife got me a kit from piratefacetattoo.com. I picked two frames that were not all ghettofabulous and I’m working with those. I’ve upgraded the coils on my liner and front springs on both liner and shader. I actually have a liner and shader spring set from Baltimore Irons on the way. I can’t find anything wrong with the frames so I’m upgrading the components on them as I go along. I have a monstersteele analog power supply that is 10x nicer than the one that came with the kit.

On the swallow I put some white in to try and highlight, but not the eye…that would have been nice. It is about healed now and my blue is spotty…just like you said. Just need to slow my roll.
