I’m curious, is it best to seek out an apprenticeship first, or buy all the needed supplies and practice on practice skins? I don’t want to start to practice with poor technique, but I want to get a feel for the machine too. I don’t plan on tattooing any people, purely practice only. What do you think?

A rule of thumb is a tattoo artist doesn’t want to hire an apprentice that has already tattooed from home
Tattoo artists don’t like to work, and breaking any bad habits you have along with reteaching you everything is a lot of work

your best bet is to make a really solid art portfolio of really high quality drawings, and pictures of any other art related things you may have done including paintings

      18-21 pages is the norm.

always put photocopies, or print offs of your original work in your portfolio. not your original work. th is way if your portfolio gets damaged or lost you can always make new copies
