Color can be applied to the skin either as a gradient or as a
solid color. It is important to note that when attempting to color
in a tattoo with a solid color or solid black that sometimes you
will have what is commonly referred to as holidays. Holidays
are small spots of the tattoo where the ink either did not take or
where, in worse case, the ink fell out due to improper tattooing.
Holidays happen a lot while tattooing with inks that have a red
base. This is because the skin turns red while tattooing, regardless
if there is ink in the tattoo tip or not. This is why it is important
to be meticulous while applying color, and work in slow
methodical circular patterns to ensure that the colored areas are
overlapped and fully filled. Keeping a balance and ensuring not
to overwork the skin is also important.
