Finally got a dot matrix printer. Picking it up tonight. Pretty good price I think for second hand (Australian prices are pretty ridiculous for these printers). Any tips or hints on best ways to use them? I am getting a Lexmark 2491 – 100 A3/A4 printer. What do you recon?

Glad to hear you are playing with Dot matrix – easy / cheap substitute for a thermal copier!
Happy to hear how it works out for you – as far as making tattoo stencils goes!

Yeah true! I also have a thermal copier too but it’s a really cheap one and doesn’t work the best. Just a cheap Chinese knock off I think. Haha

A dot matrix printer or impact matrix printer refers to a type of computer printer with a print head that runs back and forth on the page.

looks like you found one in pretty good shape… i did too mine cost me $40 USD with shipping, looked brand new, had all cables, extra spools of new ribbon, original manual and everything!!! Its takin me some tweaking (damn old technology) but I’m starting to get my graphics pretty nice out of it right now…

Basically works like a type writer with the primt head hitting the transfer paper on to the carbon paper hence they are used for duplicate invoices up to five pages.
I have one and they do work well for stencils.
