Looking good, scrub that with some green soap and water and they will look even better. I would have to say looking at those line weights, unless you built them up A LOT you used more than a 3rl, that would produce an extremely smaller diameter line weight…again, if you built it up i would completely understand where your coming from. If you dont mind what type of kit did you purchase and what all did come with it??? They could have at least sent you some transfer paper!!!!

      Looking good keep it up!

hi viper im not sure of the actual make of the equipment i own i was trying to find a name on it the other day but i will post some pictures of it up in a few hours .
it came with 2 machines , digital power supply, some immortal inks (i wouldnt tattoo anyone with them though, just using tem for practice) il show some pics of the needles as i may be reading them wrong .
wheres the best place to get green soap from also?
i did build them up a bit as they looked too thin for the effect i was after.

Personally, I get mine from Amazon. I have been told, and please dont quote me, that Dial Anit-Bacterial soap, NON-Fragrant, does the exact same thing as green soap. Now again, I havent used it due to the fact that I have a good amount of green soap on hand and for me “personally’ I think its the smell of that soap that hooks me… ;)
Also just as a fyi, as far as applying stencils there are a bunch of different ways to “make” stencil stuff, its really quite simple and works very well. You can do a Youtube search for it.
Where did you purchase the kit from???

I got the kit on eBay, but I don’t think its a normal eBay kit for a few reasons , this you will see later .
In theory I’m sure that soap you were talking about will do the same job due to its anti bacterial properties. I suppose it’s just trial and error with some things and as long as im doing it on pig skin for now it doesn’t really matter.
Il have a look on YouTube for stencil information when I get out of work.
Kinda makes me wish I could leave the forces and just become a apprentice but , chances of doing that round here is next to none . I really wanna get on the black and grey stuff as I think it looks amazing when done properly . I will try get some pics of my gear up tonight , as my mobile Internet wouldn’t allow me to last night . Thanks for the advice, it’s greatly appreciated :D

superior sells stencil pencils. They are about $2 each and you can draw on tracing paper and then use it like a spirit transfer paper stencil. It actually works pretty well but you have to keep the pencil sharp for detail. It’s an inexpensive alternative. The one I got from them worked well but the lead continually broken when being sharpened. (like it was broken inside the wood). I don’t think that is the norm, though.

yea i enjoy doing it especially since ive started to slow down, i feel i can get alot more detail in , i did another tonight and was just experimenting with things . one or two of the lads on my base have heard through word of mouth about me having it and have approached me asking me to do somthing on them , i said no because the thought of doing it made me literally sh*t myself even if it is just little things tat they want , i need a steriliser first and a autoclave before i even consider it and i dont have the money for those just yet.

an autoclave won’t make it ok.

Lose the metal and go disposable…you’d have to buy 1,000 tubes to equal the cost of a good autoclave.

I think people need to focus more on blood borne pathogens and ALL the ways they can be transferred during the course of a tattoo rather than just how to sterilize when it’s over.

this is generally and not directed at anyone specifically.

This isn’t intended to get you to do work on them, but why worry about the autoclave? Just go all disposable bro!

When you say get a sterilizer first and THEN an autoclave what did you mean? The autoclave does the sterilizing, any process before that does cleaning and disinfecting. Ultrasonics just clean stuff, you use them for cleaning most of the ink and blood from any reusable items: tubes, tips, grips etc. Then clean with brushes, then ultrasonic again then sit it all for a few hours in disinfectant… at some point later you would then bag them up and autoclave (sterilize) them. There’s a lot more to the process than most people think and I know some places advertise their ultrasonics as sterilizers but they most definately are not. Baby bottle sterilizers also do not work and nor does boiling (believe it or not there are some people who think these work). Then there’s the spore testing…now as you can see it’s going way out of most peoples price range.

Someone mentioned chemical sterilization in another post if I remember correctly, I know nothing at all about that method, but chemicals need specialist training to be used correctly and safely, chlorine gas is stupidly easy to make with household chemicals and its deadly, so my advice is to stay well away from chemicals unless you have training.

As Tex says you should be aware of BBP’s during the process too, treat every customer as if they have every disease known to man, even if it’s your own mother.

Ok by the sounds of it I will just go with disposable as it will be alot less hassle , when using disposable what’s the best way to clean my machine? Any products you recommend?( for cleaning the machine and disposable products?)

Sorry you feel that way, but if people come on here for help they should be given the facts, the fact that the OP kinda made it sound like they weren’t clued up about the whole sterilization process is why I made my post. The fact that they showed a picture od a machine with a metal tube? who gives a fuck to be honest? when I post pictures of the machines I build I do so with metal tubes and grips, I dont use them though, so I’m not likely to jump to that conclusion, unless ofc the picture showed them in use…

Just because YOU feel a horse has been flogged enough doesn’t mean it doesn’t still need a good kicking every now and then. With new people joining in discussions (which YOU wanted) you may find the same material needs to be discussed a few more times. Anyone considering working on human skin needs to be aware of the dangers involved, and that some people give out bad information (Ultrasonics for instance).

If you feel that a subject has been dealt with enough that you don’t want to get involved then maybe the fact you don’t post at all would suffice? You kinda made it sound like you think the whole health and safety aspect of tattooing is “ridiculous”…

I know what Viper is saying…for anyone who has been here any amount of time they have heard this over and over and over. Best to just tune out and do your own thing if you hate repetition.

For the newer folks here…I think the reminder is a good one and you really can’t stress safety enough. I wasn’t really aware of it when I got my kit, not like I should have been. I was fortunate and my wife was an OR nurse at the time in charge of infection control. She made sure where I was tattooing was insanely clean…and she was mean about it. :)

I like the repetition. One of the biggest reasons cited by “professional” tattoo artists is that scratchers are unclean and therefore unsafe. I think they are right in many cases. Education and behavioral changes can take care of that issue.

well this has definatly made me more aware of what i am doing the only reason i wanted a ultrasonic was to just clean my things after working on pig skin as the stuff can smell bad , but think i will go onto the plastic tubes as by te sound of it they are alot easier to manage and if they come in a sterile environment so long as the environment they are going into is clean and wiped down effectively there should be minimal risk of infecion, as long as i take care that the needle and the grip dont touch anything other than the skin and the sterilized environment they have been in

ball point pen is the best for doing the final transfer. smooth thin solid lines. (and they don’t need sharpening :D )

edit: I’m sorry I mis read the post. I was talking about using a pen for the carbon copy transfer… sorry.
