Hey guys… i hope this is the right section, if not please move it. I am still new here and have to figure where it all fits. Thanks.

Now to my question. I am really trying to up my drawing skills and have been practicing a lot lately which ultimately brought me to pecil/marker etc choice. I really would like something that helps me practice my skills and is of good quality and durability that can produce finished pieces for my portfolio.

We all know, that when it comes to drawing (or anything else that is professional) this things can come with quite a price tag so i thought i would ask for some opinions.

What would you guys recommend to buy as a starting point… for someone that doesnt really have any of this fancy shiny at home.

      I was thinking of this:

      http://www.refuelled.com/copic-set-grey-tones-p-7033.html
      http://www.refuelled.com/copic-ciao-pen-set-p-771.html
      http://www.refuelled.com/copic-multiliner-set-fineliners-p-630.html
      http://www.refuelled.com/prismacolor-premier-colour-pencils-set-p-2211.html

I think this would cover me for a while, i just dont wanna waste so much money on stuff that is not optimal. So would you guys recommend this or is there other stuff you would buy instead, maybe another copic pen set is more versatile etc. Maybe i should forget about prismacolor and just buy a bigger copic set or vice versa… go for bigger prismacolor set. And is there an ultimate pencil (grey/black) set that rules them all?

Anything copic will be very pricey and they’re usually used by professional artists.

I’ve found that Prismacolor is amazing. Their pens and markers last a good while and tracing paper doesn’t suck all the ink out of them. The sizes that seem most popular .005, 03, and 05. But that’s really just personal preference.

As far as the colored pencils go, I’d suggest Prismacolor ColorSoft. They are (obviously) softer which makes blending colors into each other much easier and smoother. Most of the tattoo artists I talk to use these.

Hope this helps a little :)
