After the talk here and a lot of reading/watching videos on black and gray I decided to draw something up I normally wouldn’t draw. I put together a ROUGH outline of this thing but then used just a mechanical pencil and started doing things very light and adding darker tones over the light ones.
It obviously isn’t smooth…it was a mechanical pencil. It was a lot of fun to draw though. I put it together in sections so while the whole paper was still white I had the mouth done…then the chin, then the jaw, etc. So rather than being all over the place I worked on one spot at a time.
I’m not thrilled with the end result (I prefer traditional style drawings) but the process it took to get there was a good lesson in focus and patience. And with my recent spine fusion there was no bending into the picture to get up close and personal…it was on my knees at arm’s length sitting straight up in a recliner. (that is harder than it would seem when you are accustomed to being hunched over your sketch book)
