Well I’m fairly new to all this myself(about 2months of practice skins,fruit, and definitely not my legs :D)but from all I’ve come to understand the number of coils increases the strength of the magnets when the electrical circuit completes. So an 8coilwould have less pull on the armature bar leading to a softer hit of the needle and a quicker return to the contact screw

a while back when i was much more a dumbass than i am now, i did a small shitty tat on my inner forearm. to keep the skin tight i basically just put my arm between my knees, squeezed like hell and tried to pull my arm up. i was wearing shorts so the skin to skin contact and my leg strength was more or less enough to get it done.
