You want to just “kiss” the skin when you use your mags. Especially for shading. As for your lining it depends on how your machine is set up. If you set your throw so it’s EXACTLY the depth you want and then set your tube so only that throw pokes out when the machine is running you could just run your tube against the skin. However, you don’t want…[Read more]

Ramenuzumaki replied to the topic Thought I'd share….Grey wash formula… in the forum Pigment vs. Ink 10 years, 10 months ago
I use 100% Black, 75% Black, 50% Black, 25% Black, 10% Black, and 5% black. The other values are nice for bigger pieces but regular pieces I most just used 100, 50, 25, 5, and use a cup of water to dip into to get other values.

Not necessarily. If you have done your prep properly, and took out enough ink, and paper towel, and such, and the client doesn’t require any breaks you should only use two pairs of gloves.

Pretty good start dude. Finding clients in the beginning is pretty friggen hard. Gotta get your name out there.
Try using Honeydew Melon. I honestly hate practice skin.

It could be bruising. My ex had very sensitive skin, and would bruise almost every time she got a tattoo. Every client is different. I have even gotten bruised. The thighs are pretty bad for bruising imo.

Really the best thing you could invest in is a DSLR Camera. I use a FujiFilm Finepix s9100, and photoshop to make my photos awesome. I don’t edit the actual images I just put them together into one picture, with a simple background, etc.

Pretty much you want to get through our first 100 tattoos as fast as possible. On practice mediums obviously. That’s when you’ll really start to get better. I’d say you should still work on your drawings though.

I’ll only use PurTect during my tattoo process. I also use PurKlenz soap instead of Green Soap, and I recommend that my clients use PurSan soap, and PurTect for actercare. These three products are designed for the tattoo industry, and are designed to coincide with each other. That way there is no chance of a chemical reaction between products.

From many sources including my old mentor as well as personal experience using petroleum based aftercare products during the healing process of my own tattoos, and family/friends that I had testing aftercare products after I tat them. I write reviews for tattoo equipment and such, so when I get ointments and stuff I have my family/friends test it.

I agree. really do some research, and draw every day if you can. You’ve got a good start, and it looks like you started with Hildbrant machines. Personally, I prefer fruit over practice skin, but that’s just me. Also, vaseline is fine for practising, but never use it on a client. Petroleum based products will actually enter the wounds, and sit…[Read more]

I use a grey wash I made using Kuro Sumi Outlining ink for my shading, and either Alla Prima Black, or Intenze Zuper black for my outlines. I find the Kuro has a bit of a blue undertone so once healed it doesn’t stay black black.

The thing on the machine is for comfort. It makes it so the machine rests softly on the back of your hand. It helps to even out the weight of heavier machines as well. Some people don’t like the hard feel of their machine on their hand, so these were made. Theres nothing wrong with it, and they are disposable.
As far as the set up theres nothing…[Read more]

Recent from 2014. Keep in mind I am a traditional artist, not realism. When I look at pictures I see bold lines, not shapes and shades like portrait artists.

Ramenuzumaki replied to the topic Mag Needle Groupings M1/M2/MC/ ? in the forum Design Ideas / Technique 10 years, 10 months ago
If you’re going to get M1–weaved mag–I recommend using RM–Round, or Curved Mag–as they are the same needle except the ends are in a round or curved configuration. Some say with the round ends it fits into the indent created by the pressure of the needles better, and causes less trauma. I’m not 100% sure on this as I just recently started using…[Read more]
