Haha any critique is helpful. Appreciate it though, and the hat was really hard to get the patterns right. I try to get every detail I see. From the light shadows to the dark and the wrinkles in the face. It’s tough I’m not going to lie. My biggest problem I have is with hair. :? Lmao

It’s tough though using a mechanical pencil for the whole piece. Any tips on different drawing utensils I can use to help me out? :?:

Just going to start posting pictures on this tread.

A portrait drawing of my uncle. Still a novice at it but this is what I would like to specialize in, photo realism.

Point proven haha. But I usually do a number or letter at a time then wipe to see where I’m at. And I try to avoid blobs of ink from piling up.

There is some parts of this tattoo that I do not like and I could have done better but it’s just trial and error. But overall I’m satisfied with it. Could have been worse, that’s what I usually think about. ;)

Much appreciated Infamous and Lennart. definitely got to work on things and I will work on my lighting. :D As of the numbers in the crown, I freestyled that but it could also use a little work on the alignment.

I really tried to take my time with this tattoo, didn’t want to rush anything and it came out better then I expected. ;) oh, and it healed great also.

Appreciate it guys! I’ve been trying to step my game up and for this piece I used witch hazel instead of that kokkai brand! :) helped out a lot. Lol but I was gonna ask you guys if there is any part of this tattoo that i could have been done better. Any critique is helpful. Thanks again!

Maybe your right. Ima have to invest in some witch hazel. I figured there was something sketchy about that ink. Got it from eBay. Learn from my mistakes.

You wouldn’t happen to know a couple legit sites I could get some tattoo stuff from?
I know of some like superiortattoo and worldwidetattoo but they are usually limited on supplies.

I’m also using a hildbrant .444 marlin for my shading. Seems to be good so far, just not with the ink. But I will look into the witch hazel and see if that works better for me. Thanks for the input though. :)

I actually did this not to long ago. About a week. I just didn’t darken the inside enough. Or maybe he was using to much ointment or out in the sun to make it fade like that.
I bought the light, medium, dark kokkai sumi ink. But I also use kuro sumi ink for outlining. Works wonders.

I used kokkai sumi ink. Yeah the inside of the 80 is faded. But what ink would you prefer for shading?

That portrait of the kid is amazing. Also the skull one is legit. I like the depth feeling it has to it. :D

In the shop i use a TTS quad power supply from ink stains tattoo supply, they are a workhorse! $60 and is what all the pro’s in the shops here use.. Check it out you wont be disappointed! If you are located in the USA i would order my supplies from needlesupply.com there you can get your needles and tubes by individuals instead of having to buy 50 at a time. My advise is to get 20 of each needle like 5rl, 7rl, 9rs,7m1,9m1,13m2,9m2 so you can decide what you like best and what works for you, they have a needle to tube sizing chart witch is very helpful especially for M2 mags . Also if you don’t know what ink you like i suggest Intenze for color but there are alot of good inks out there but i would only buy 1/2 oz at a time until you find out what you do like. Hope this helps ya…

      +1
I also like Eternal for colours, and Alla Prima for the prime colours, and colour mixing
tattoomachineequipment.com also has a refill kit I like to use
i get to choose which 50 needles I want, which grips, i can change basically ANYTHING in the kit except for the inks because they are prepackaged :)

thanks for the advice from both of you, I will look into those sites. I currently buy from superiortattoo and worldwidetattoo, also got a product catalog from there which has a lot of handy equipment. but ya, i need to find whats best for me when it comes to needles and ink.
my main focus is practicing my shading technique and upgrade my power supply. Still havent decided which one i want but i would want to get one that lasts long and has steady durability. I read that a good power supply to get will tell u the V, Duty, speed, and follow through, but if the TTS quad power supply will last, i will consider it. Plus its cheaper.
i was also looking into RCA cords…. liike it helps make the machine stay constant… any thoughts on that?

      Nice work bro!

What kind of ink did u use and what needle size? Here soon im going to buy color ink and need to find out some good brands out there. I heard intenze is pretty decent, along with starbrite ink. but i will look more into it.
