Check out EikonDevice.com for easy to use a-bar and spring combinations. Buy a true spring low lift short or standard kit w/ all the springs about $30 – $50 not too sure. Experiment with them and see how it works out for you. Coils (I prefer pulse) 8 wrap 2.5 to 3 ohm shorty wraps with a yoke.
Frames, I prefer to use brass.

The Eikon clones are worth about $30.00 – they seem to work okay… have messed around with them a bit – but nothing extensive.

I am against tattoo schools alone but if you go to one to learn a bit then do an apprenticeship that is another thing.
I wouldn’t pay for a tattoo apprenticeship unless you really really wanted to. and if you did pay – you should make sure that the tattoo artist you are paying is actually a good tattoo artist.

Then you obviously have that choice to make.
The reason I am against it is because tattoo apprentice (in my opinion) pays for his knowledge by way of cleaning / helping at the studio.
To pay cash… then who would do the cleaning?
