Depends on your machine / power supply / style of tattooing..
most the machines I build – I build them to run on 2amp supply at approx 3.5 – 7 volts
depending on the spring setup and how much tension there is – usually requires a bit more voltage.
good solid frame – will disburse the heat as well –
good coils will not heat up as much as shitty…[Read more] -

inconsistent machines and running gear is a sign of low quality.
Properly built power supplies and machines (specifically coils and metals) will make your machine run the same from start to finish on the tattoo.
Magnetic’s can also change – on lower quality gear…

new tattoo artists should use 7 round tight for lining , 5 round tight for lining
14 round lose for color
and 7 mag woven for shading

Hard line, soft line – that is artistic license.
To get a softer line tattoo you can use a bit of diluted pigment or you can run your machine softer or use a blood line. -

It is difficult to say w/o seeing it.
This is where your apprenticeship really plays a big part. You cant experiment on people – you have to learn from the lessons of guys from your shop!I have used white to lighten a black tattoo before – but you have to let it heal up.
I have also covered up an old black tattoo with lighter colors.
