Work on your drawing –
go to college. Art school / Graphic design.
Get a job at a graphic design / airbrush / anything art place…
work on your art..
Tattooing is a medium not an art.
If you are not a good artist – you will not become a good tattoo artist. Just another tracing old school hack who is too afraid to share secrets out of fear that…[Read more] -

less than 11 volts
I can usually get a machine running solid at 3-4 volts w/ Pulse power supply. Most artists like the 6 volt range, so thats where I try to build. But I have found that the less volts used the cooler the machine runs – so I try to tune in the 3-4 volts range. I hear some guys say they run around 8-9 volts.
There is…[Read more] -

imported_canvasyou replied to the topic Double stack magnums in the forum Suggestions 13 years, 4 months ago
Depends on the actual gauge of the needles. The diameter of the individual needles. Stacked are usually a bit smaller than woven. But all needle makers are not complaint with all tube makers…
Trial and error from each manufacturer is the way to learn..
cant hurt to have extra tubes though –
just buy a box of 20 or 50
and you will be okay –

There is nothing wrong with admitting you were a “scratcher” when you are trying to get an apprenticeship… If the guys at the shop “walk you out” – then they are more than likely hypocrites –
Almost all tattoo artists have tattooed at their home – before working a shop.
It is not the end of the world. But any artist who has tattooed in a shop -…[Read more] -

I also, as crazy as this my sound am not interested in getting covered in tattoo’s just to become an apprentice or to “Ask Questions”. When i get a tattoo its because there is a reason behind it, not just to be able to build a report with the shop.
This is simply a way to learn to tattoo that would not require you to clean…[Read more]

imported_canvasyou replied to the topic blending color in the forum Suggestions 13 years, 4 months ago
I prefer to use curved mags for most larger blending –
but you can blend with any type of tattoo needle grouping.
The actual blending is more in the pressure and how the machine it hitting than in the needle grouping –
in my opinion. -
imported_canvasyou replied to the topic apprentice or not? in the forum How to Get an Apprenticeship in 3 days or your money back! 13 years, 4 months ago
Your portfolio that you bring to the tattoo shop – when trying to become an apprentice – should not include tattoos. You should have a portfolio of art work. You should not have experience to become an apprentice.
It is not advised that you show your “scratcher” work to a professional shop.
It is hard to get an apprenticeship – i am not arguing…[Read more]

Here is after. Things I know to be true:
1. I tried to use the tip of the needle rather than the tip of the tube…it backfired horribly and I was inconsistent as hell with depth.
2. 42 year old butts give a lot.
3. I will be reworking the lining when it heals using the tip rather than needle. Should be an easy fix but it was a… -

Viper,
Most skilled professions require that the individual who wants to learn them goes to a vocational school. There are no real secrets in the tattoo industry any more. The information is available for sale in countless books and DVDs. You could consider these things tattoo secrets I guess. If you are an artist and you utilize your apprentices…[Read more] -

imported_canvasyou replied to the topic Stroke Length in the forum My Machine Hates Me! 13 years, 5 months ago
While a softer rear spring on a tattoo machine will speed it up – it will do so at a lower voltage.
Those general rules apply to keeping every thing else the same.
Meaning if you change just 1 variable – then you will have the change noticeable. For a typical liner – you will want a longer stroke, and a heavy to medium hit.
But this depends on…[Read more] -
