Jbeaufosho replied to the topic what is the big difference in coils??? in the forum My Machine Hates Me! 10 years, 10 months ago
It doesn’t necessarily make 8 wraps better for lining it just makes the machine run faster. Most people like their liners to run pretty fast but I use 10 wraps on both my machines. They may be a little slower but they pack a stronger punch at lower volts. I guess it depends on your hand speed when you line

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic I can't get good color or black saturation!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELP in the forum My Machine Hates Me! 10 years, 10 months ago
Well said. Be more specific if you want help. I use a pulse solution as my all around shader. But it’s been stripped and rebuilt completely so that doesn’t help you. But I really like papillons machines. Their shaders are nice.

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic Leveling front coil top? in the forum My Machine Hates Me! 10 years, 10 months ago
Yeah it’s pretty common to get coils that don’t have perfectly flat tops. A good metal file works good to flatten them out. Go slowish though. Don’t want to take too much off. And yeah sometimes frames can even warp a bit over time. You could check the saddle to make sure it’s straight. That can make a huge difference to how your machine runs.

Not too shabby man. Honestly the photo is a little grainy so it’s hard to say for sure but most of your lines look pretty clean. Yeah you gotta be careful going over stuff a bunch of times trying to fix it. If you can’t fix a bad line in 1-2 passes its usually best to let it be. Lets see some color!

Vaseline is only an issue with latex. If you’re using nitrile it’s not a problem. And you should be changing your gloves relatively frequently while tattooing anyway.

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic bruising??? in the forum Apprentice Folly 10 years, 10 months ago
It’s definitely possible. But have you seen it yourself? Are you sure it’s bruising? A more likely scenario would be blowouts. Which can sometimes look kind of like bruising. Just because she got it done in a shop doesn’t mean the guy knew what he was doing unfortunately. And even if he did blow outs can still happen.

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic needle depth in tube in the forum Apprentice Folly 10 years, 10 months ago
It’s not necessary to set up your machine that way. I hang about a dimes width past the tip when the a bar is in the relaxed position. I saw my work improve dramatically when I stopped riding the tube. But everyone is different. You just gotta find what works for you. Just know that there’s no one set way to set your shit up. It’s all about…[Read more]

It would definitely be a 6 flat. The old timers love them. And I’ve only ever used evenly numbered flats. From what I’ve learned flats aren’t really good to go out of the box. We make our own at the shop I work at and there’s an extra step that the mass produced ones I’ve seen don’t do. That being said its very easy to tear someone up using a flat…[Read more]

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic Figuring out how to learn! Sorry for the length! in the forum Apprentice Folly 10 years, 10 months ago
I worked a full time job in the mornings and full time at the shop evenings for two years. It was fucking brutal but worth every second of it. I know someone will have something to say about this but unless your work is some next level shit pros will never take you seriously if you don’t serve an apprenticeship. At least none of the ones I know.…[Read more]

Mickey sharpz machines are notoriously fast and hard hitting liners. They’re set up for pros I wouldn’t reccomend them for beginners. I have one that was given to me by an old timer and has been used by a lot of old timers and they love it. But I hate it. That being said swelling does happen its not abnormal. I mean its not ideal but some people…[Read more]

I’m not sure how you’re taking pictures, but I have an ancient iPhone and the pictures it takes are horrible. I was able to find this app called pic stitch. You can frame the pictures so you do side by sides and shit. Plus you can actually clean up the pics a little so they’re nice and clear by adjusting the brightness and sharpness. What shop do…[Read more]

Well, you asked for it. You need to take better pictures. Nobody needs to see pictures of ypu tattooing, or a picture of a dirty ink mess on your shit. For where you’re at your work is totally decent. I’ve seen a lot of people claiming to be a lot farther along than you putting out consistent garbage. I honestly see a lot of potential. And I don’t…[Read more]

myfonts.com absolutely amazing. Every fuckin font imaginable all for free. And I’m not sure about pc’s but on a Mac you can rip a sample of the font right off the site to the desktop and print it out.

How did you have the person situated? I’ve never had to enlist help to stretch skin for a tattoo, so it sounds like there may be some other factors at play. How do you run your liner machine? Is it optimally tuned for the way you line?

It’s about as tall as a piece of computer paper. If that gives you any perspective. You’re in Canada?

I don’t think you’re in a place for criticism at the moment. I take it these were your first attempts? I’m really happy to see you using the fruit/practice skin. I know it sucks but you really don’t wanna start scratching people up right out the gate. My best advice is get your artwork up and start looking for an apprenticeship. And in the…[Read more]
