I’ve never had that problem with kuro. And as far as needle size I work in a traditional shop so I always try to go for big bold lines if I can get away with it. I used a 7 for all three of those I believe.

For ink? Just regular kuro sumi. I love that shit. It’s the only black I use.

I think you’re misunderstanding. All I’m saying is there are ways to set up a machine to get better results and only use one rubber band. I’m not saying that its inherently wrong because there are two of them. But to each there own. And damn these newfangled tattoo inventions. Hard to keep up with them all.

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic Third piece on skin (mine) in the forum Post your work here 10 years, 10 months ago
Also, I realize this probably isn’t something you’re going to be able to reconcile yourself but you may want to have your mentor take a look at how your shader machine is running. Or it may be as simple as turning up the voltage a little. I do all that by sound and my pontentiometer doesn’t have numbers or a digi readout on my supply so I can’t…[Read more]

Using rounds for filling is a terrible idea unless its a really small area. You should always use mags unless its impossible to do so. The reason you’re having better luck with them is because its filling a smaller surface area at a time and forcing you to work more slowly and methodically. Take your time. Small tight circles. I know it can be…[Read more]

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic Biggest tattoo I've done yet! Opinions? in the forum Post your work here 10 years, 10 months ago
A little advice. Clean your tattoos before you take pictures of them. It’s highly unprofessional to take pictures like that. As far as the tattoo, the fill looks light. You’re not making enough passes or you may be using too small of a needle grouping. I wouldn’t use anything smaller than a 13 mag for that. Helps make it more solid in less passes.

What the fuck is on your machine? It’s set up wrong too. If you need more than one rubber band you’re doing it wrong.

Thanks for the response. yeah I have a pulse solution I use for shading and its a solid block frame and it’s awesome. But it’s good to hear other people having success with the welded type. Anyone know anything about cast frames? Theres one from spaulding/rogers im looking at that I really like but now I’m leaning towards making my own.

Jbeaufosho replied to the topic Tattoo Reality Shows PISS ME OFF in the forum Rants and Raves 12 years, 5 months ago
It’s got nothing to do with what it’s doing to tattooists for the most part. The issue is the average customer that is watching these shows and are coming in thinking they know more than their artist. God bless you if you haven’t had to deal with it yet. And youre probably not even going to princeton plainsborough.

Yikes. If you really are stretching the skin enough, then it doesn’t look like you’re going anywhere near deep enough. low quality ink or improperly tuned machine could also be factors, but this sounds like something your “tutor” should be helping you with.

I was just gonna leave this one alone, but reading the above is making that impossible for me. I love how most of this commentary is coming from someone who isn’t even old enough to get legally tattooed. You say you hate all these “ed hardy posers” but as someone who is literally light years away from the industry yet thinks they know anything…[Read more]

I always use tight liners for white highlights. Run the at a slightly lower voltage so you dont overwork the skin as easily. Small tight circles.
