I seriously love this snake. You are doing so well.

I never used my hand for blending, unless it was a piece completely done with my hand (a charcoal picture I made of a skull entirely done with finger smudges). That is why we have smudgers… you know, the pencil shaped paper things with tips? I find that learning to blend with cross hatch or pencil pressure helps with the clarity of the gradient.

I’m really excited to get into some more work, I am getting a new sketch pad and materials (yes, I’ve been running LOW I draw so much). I can’t wait to bring something awesome in for the tattoo studio I’ve been secretly befriending…. Bwahahaha.

I love the sketch, I love love love it. I like the idea of shading a head of time (just like a practice) so if you use your original as a reference, you are practiced. Just me.

you can still achieve similar shading effects with the regular pencil. Its just about how it interacts with the paper, i.e. hard pressure vs light pressure. That is tough. Your stencil has got to be good and you gotta go slow obviously, but man – I think what would work (only because I think only about how I would draw it) is to tattoo the man first and use him as a helpful reference for the perfect circle and square. Since the shapes touch the corners of his image – you can take it one step at a time. ??????

I have always been drawing, and for many many many years I have sold custom designs (only by request, never advertised) for tattoos. Its funny, because I’ve always been a stickler for clean lines – (I used to teach art in Germany… did that for about 3 years). The 5 Koi I read, I guess like a family – is supposed to represent good luck stronger? I had but thenread it was 7 Koi from a different source. But the 7 had all different colors, representing the role of each family member.

I saw them, did you have some up in a Gallery? I like your use of color on the first four faces. Is that oil? I love how oil can make something so vivid. Good Work ! Do you have pencil sketches, or more to show? Going into tattoing is a great decision, pencil drawings help you learn more about that.
