Ya dude you need to be in a shop. You seem like you have a really good head on your shoulders and talent. Not common you get both. I hear you on the family thing though. I used to draw every day, then I got a wife, and then two kids, and now after I spend the day tattooing, and answering texts from my wife about how crazy our kids are, the last…[Read more]

Dude I really like ur old school style. I actually like the not so perfect lettering. I’m partial to realism and gore for my own drawings, and sometimes finding my motivation is impossible. But ur cranking out drawings like a crack head. Do you apprentice full time? The skull is kinda whack though, especially since I’ve seen ur other work.

  • Ya that came out kind of dick like but I was only kidding. One real awesome thing about vasoline is I always see artists with these enormous jars of it that they use for (I am assuming) like 10000 clients. Giant vasoline jars seem like a cozy place for bacteria to live. I always assumed that we live in a single use world when were opening peoples…[Read more]

  • Try slowing your machine, and hand speed down. If you are using mags, use a pushing motion at a 45 degree angle. I see new tattooers working too fast, and with crazy hand motions, and running their machines way to hard when shading. Take it slow and easy and keep practicing and you will see some results.

  • Most new tattooers grossly underestimate the importance of machine tuning. Whether you work fast or slow or whatever your lines should be a one pass and done deal. Usually when a tattoo is just an all around fail its a combination of tuning, penetration and technique. Pretty much all reasons you shouldn’t be tattooing humans yet. Nightmare is…[Read more]

  • Nightmare, I am well aware that a and d is petroleum based. I’m pretty sure cj is too. But hey thanks for pointing out the obvious.

  • Oh ya good call mahonski

  • Loopi is pretty argumentive.. I think I spelled that wrong. I personally hate vasoline. I don’t even know what purpose it serves in the world other than a cheap alternative to a and d ointment (maybe wheel bearing grease?) Couldn’t even use it for butt lube cause it would eat ur condom away… I’d rather use mayonayse and mustard to tattoo with…[Read more]

  • Well actually I was kind of sticking up for you in a pretty direct way, since your post was pretty vague and appeared to be from someone not wanting to tattoo gay people or get tattooed by someone gay. you obviously feel the need to be openly gay and let the world know who you like to sleep with, and it is ovviously working against you, which is…[Read more]

  • Try running your highlights in with your liner. This works well for small highlights. Just don’t stay in one area too long.

  • I had to read your post a few times over to make sense of it. But here’s my thoughts on this. Sexual orentation has nothing to do with tattooing, and has no place as a discussion between a client and artist in any combination. As a professional artist you are to approach every client as if they have a comunicable disease. That is protocol. By…[Read more]

  • Oh ya I like spauldings puma machines. You should build your own dude… Just because its awesome and not that many people do it. Even if you want a solid frame you can go to a machine shop and have one milled out. Check out flying irons. They sell everything you would need to build a machine minus the frame.

  • A lot of reputable builders either braze or bolt their frames together. I don’t know the specific differences in the magnetic field vs. Solid frames, but an adjustable spring deck sure is a nice plus, especially if you wanna go way back for a color machine. I have a keyhole infinity irons machine that I line with, and it is welded, and its…[Read more]

  • Johnny replied to the topic Needles in the forum My Machine Hates Me! 12 years, 6 months ago

Yes and no, depending on who you buy from. Most places buy their needles premade from china, and have their name printed on the box. They all charge different prices, but realistically your getting the same thing. Some places like national tattoo supply, unimax and tatsoul spearman (my favorite) make their own, and there is a difference in…[Read more]

  • Hahahaha! Good one…

  • Hahaha I love it when people get heated and start talking shit. I like la ink… Because its a tv show. And I like being entertained. I havent noticed any change in the “industry” because of kat von d. I also haven’t gone to the doctor and expected dr. House to treat me. People realize that tv is fake. I know this because nobody has ever asked me…[Read more]

  • Oops, must have misread the question. Ultimately getting your lines down in one pass is the goal, but if you have to hit one up twice, just carefully go over it again. KEEP MOVING. Don’t ever let the machine sit in one spot. I usually stretch away from the direction of the line I’m about to do, so my wrist can rotate with it. Have an idea of where…[Read more]

  • Nightmare covered stretching good, but you shouldn’t be stretching to apply a stencil. Most stencils are applied with the collector standing in a natural position. Since you are a lefty you should line left to right, and wipe away from your stencil. Its okay to wipe over your already done lines, but try to keep it to a minimum as to not destroy…[Read more]

  • Speaking of train wrecks… One time when I was a kid, a bunch of my friends and I decided that we were going to put a bunch of pennies on some railroad tracks. Well the cops showed up and told us that we were collectively tring to derail a train. Can you imagine going home after your shift and telling your wife that you saved a train from…[Read more]
