Welcome indeed :) The one thing I would say, is beware of what you read, and only make it one of your tattooing practices if you see several people recommending it, as I have heard (not on this forum) people give out slightly false advice to aspiring artists, simply to fuck up their progress. (They should be ashamed of themselves, as they could…[Read more]

Going with disposables just makes sense, bro, it takes the hassle out of everything :) No hassle with post-tattoo cleaning and sterilizing, no hassle of clients asking “is that a clean needle?”, because you’ve opened it right in front of them :D If I was to ever have my own premises, I know by law I would have to have an autoclave, but I can say…[Read more]

Absolutely, and knowing how to build the machines, is the first step to being able to diagnosing any faults which might occur during the process and being able to correct them :)

I put it down to closed-mindedness/elitism. Other than one set of coils dying immediately before a job, I can honestly say I’ve had no problems with my Chinese machines. I’ve re-built each of the ones I use, and they’ve always done what I need them to do. Okay, the 8 wrap liner did start to get a bit unhappy after running for 6 hours, but after…[Read more]

Is the issue with rubber grommets that it would be possible to contaminate a whole bag of them getting something out, where paper towel is totally single-use?

Bend a little – Helps. Bend will keep the needle snug against the tube. When you use the rubber band – it will bend it away from the tube – the bend in the needle will off set this. Hope that helps!
Thanks, that’s what I’d read/heard, that it keeps the needle snug against the tube, I just couldn’t ignore the apparent correlation…[Read more]

I use the same coils on my liner as the shader. You want strong coils. The stronger the…

I did a Hawaiian piece on my thigh a few days ago… Internal lines’re pretty wonky, and I’m going to go over them with a 9 liner, then shade, to correct that wonkiness. (Tattooing the outside edge of ones own thigh is rather awkward…) But, the filling on the outer triangles, I’m really pleased with, and that was done with a color packer set…[Read more]

There is no rule as to what machine/coil/wrap is used for the tattooing process. What you find is best to push a 7mag for coloring may not be what I choose to push the same needle. You are mentioning old school rule of thumbs, they are good to know and very useful. However, as you progress if you limit yourself to these set rules…

have u tried to use diamond tips? they have a “groove” that will keep the needle from jumping around and keep your lines straight. also, try to do all lines in one fluid motion to keep the line looking like one line, instead of two crossing, or spots where u stopped. remember to have confidence, go in with it. if u dont, ur work…
