leena replied to the topic Cleaning squeeze/spray bottles in the forum General Questions About Tattooing Safe 11 years, 8 months ago
Firstly Fill the spray bottle approximately halfway with white vinegar. Place the nozzle back onto the bottle, and shake the bottle so the vinegar moves throughout the inside of the bottle. Leave the vinegar inside the bottle for about 10 minutes.
Pull the nozzle’s trigger so the white vinegar goes through the bottle’s tube and out the sprayer.…[Read more] -

leena replied to the topic Autoclave/Pressure Cooker? in the forum General Questions About Tattooing Safe 11 years, 8 months ago
An autoclave operates at a higher pressure than a pressure cooker (about 15 p.s.i. for pressure cooker 25 p.s.i. plus for autoclave) That fact alone dictates that it would take much longer cycle times to achieve the same level of sterilization with a cooker. It has been proven that an autoclave kills microorganisms better then conventional pressure cooker.

Use Alconox for the standard tattoo equipment cleaning, or use Tergazyme (Alconox plus enzyme) for enzymatic cleaning where health ordinances may require enzymatic cleaning. Use…[Read more]

leena replied to the topic Outlining Ink in the forum Pigment vs. Ink 11 years, 8 months ago
We line with color. The problem is often beyond the concept though. If you have a light outline like you are describing, once it blends in with the skin tone around it, you have not much there for contrast and it doesn’t look so good.

leena replied to the topic Scabbing in the forum Apprentice Folly 11 years, 8 months ago
Doesn’t look too bad. Heavy black work like this tends to scab up pretty good, in my experience anyways. I would disagree with the artist however and recommend you use some lotion on that, something gentle like aveeno. It will help the healing and stop the itching. Just don’t pick at the scabs. You may lose some color, but that is not uncommon e…[Read more]

leena replied to the topic needle depth in tube in the forum Apprentice Folly 11 years, 8 months ago
Set your needle. A tattoo needle needs to stick out of the machine tube about o.8 mm to 1.6 mm. These measurements will vary from person to person, as everyone’s body is different. Your needle and tube need to match; if you are using a three-needle , you must also use a three-needle tube.

1. The first thing you need is raw talent. Someone who can’t draw or color inside the lines isn’t going to be a good candidate for being a tattoo artist.
2. Then you need to hone your raw talent to develop talent into skill. Skill can come from fine art classes, working with a fellow artist, learning technique from books, or all of the above. On…[Read more] -

Choose a shop that is registered with the local council and complies with health regulations to minimize the risks.

leena replied to the topic Finger tattoo in the forum Apprentice Folly 11 years, 8 months ago
As a tattoo artist I advise against it. The underside of your finger will be only noticed here and there at quick glance and no one will really notice it is initials…to them it will look like your finger is dirty with something just like when people do a fine line or small toe tattoo.
