Nope… these are Chinese coils. All of my machines are Chinese. So maybe “rebuild” is a strong word.

Tattooing on yourself is not easy. What I found that helped me was outlining with a 50% greywash. This is is a type of blood lining. After that, you can go back with 100% black and clean up any mistakes caused by flinches.
Take your time. Take a break and get an ice pack from the freezer and bag it. It will help reduce any swelling and will help numb the area.
Looking good on the third. ^_^

Good stuff. How did it all heal? It’s been quite some time.

Hi Brenda… All I can say about using Vaseline, is I have never seen a true reason NOT to use it. No doubt there are products that are designed to be better than plain Jane Vaseline, containing products that would aid in healing the tattoo.
I have used Vaseline on all of my selfies. No problems.

Or buy a kit from Hildbrandt that has the TMTT. Good info for beginners.

Hey Jake… nice art. Welcome to the forum. Did you do the swallow and candy skull on your forearm?

Have you tried their needles?
I am considering buying their rounded mags.

What differences have you noticed between “jail-house” tattooing and inking outside?

Buy cheap Chinese stuff. Break it. take it apart. rebuild it. learn from it. break it again. learn something new. Buy a few more, get some parts kits. Rebuild and attempt to create two similar machines…
What I am getting at, is that with the Chinese machines, you can lean a lot more about machine mechanics.
Don’t forget that China does have tattoo artists too. They are more than capable artists with their machines.
Are there crap machines out there? God yes, and I have bought a few only to throw away the frame or the coils depending on what was an inferior part.
I now own 9 different machines that I have rebuilt and tweaked to my liking. The skills and knowledge I have gained from fiddling around with a variety of machines is awesome.
