Well, Spider… there are so many ‘dickhead’ artists out there because there are so many underground ‘dickheads’ like the one you mentioned in your last post out there.
I think what Infamous ran into could have been an elitist shit-sniffing dickwad… or maybe he’s a guy who wants to know he has a connection with the person he’s going to be…[Read more]

SparkEater72 replied to the topic How should I go about word tattoos? in the forum Design Ideas / Technique 10 years, 7 months ago
No offense guys… I mean that. But the advice here indicates a serious lack of experience and knowledge on the subject.
For one thing… sending a client to dafont.com and letting them choose their typeface is a really bad idea.
Why? Simple answer: your client’s have no idea what works in the skin, what will last 2 years or 20. You’re supposed…[Read more]

SparkEater72 replied to the topic BAD tattoo session… Really bad in the forum Design Ideas / Technique 10 years, 7 months ago
All right. First off, lose the baggage. The tattoo appointment is for your client. Not for his or her friends… no matter how cool they think it is to have their buds around to watch them ‘tough it out’. Or how cool their friends think it is to chill out with a tattooer.
Their baggage is your distraction. Especially since you’re starting out you…[Read more]

Ah, Spider… your words, man. They touch me. :D
I can identify with you on everything you said in your original post… which is why I’m burned out on tattooing and soon return back to heating, beating and welding on rail cars.
Well, there’s that, and I’ve gotten married, the wife and I want to buy some land but not sure where.(tough to get a…[Read more]

Anything said in this post is mean to be constructive…
As far as the first tattoo, it looks like a phoenix coming out of a dragon shaped like a tree? Hard to make out what it’s supposed to be.
It would be easier to say to something about the linework if you had a picture of the lines BUT since I can’t see any blowouts or crossed lines,…[Read more]

Solid line work, based on the size of the tiger I think the lines are very good considering you used a 7. that sucker had to be super tight for the striping and in the face and the tail. You definitely grasp how to use the liner with all those tiny fur lines. I can’t spot a blowout. After seeing the color I have to ask if it’s picture quality or…[Read more]

SparkEater72 replied to the topic Making grey wash in the forum Pigment vs. Ink 10 years, 7 months ago
@ madreaper:
well said, very informative.
As far as some of the other posts:
A lot of well known (and many unknown) tattooers use Intenze inks. Many reputable ink manufacturers have their supporters and their nay-sayers. Usually it’s a matter of personal preference, sometimes it’s just ‘personal’.
I prefer bulk shading mixes. This way I know…[Read more]

It’s a dick move and I’d never do it.
Not knowing Shop A or Shop B it’s hard to say.
But is it possible that Shop A has seen lots of similar work from Shop B? Perhaps their frustration with Shop B has prompted this act?
The last shop I worked at had some competition. At least… the ‘competition’ viewed it as competition. I wasn’t worried about…[Read more]

SparkEater72 replied to the topic Torn skin/Skin rip in the forum Design Ideas / Technique 10 years, 7 months ago
I know it’s been awhile since this was posted.
It may help to bear in mind that skin is elastic. When sliced it moves away from the wound causing wrinkles around the wound.
Torn skin, ripped, will have a rough appearance as discussed, but not like paper, or an old T-shirt (no offense). Skin is not cloth but if you’re not squeamish there are…[Read more]
