I understand your point. And your closeness to MA makes sense to use the analogy. However…holding a painful stance is necessary to progress in the sport. I guess I’m looking more at the division between what is necessary to learn and what is simply there because there is some feeling that the teacher deserves to haze the student.
I’m a personal…[Read more]

I wasn’t sure about the ears. Practice skins seem to blend ok. I think with the ears you get the feel of real skin but it leaves that “fresh tattoo” look? So far my experience has been that washes heal lighter than they appear to go in.
Keep on posting. Everytime I look at a new tattoo on here I learn something.

I like to hear that it really does make a difference to upgrade. I’ve gone from pressed Chinese stuff to a cast frame and that is a big difference already. I’m going to keep working basics with my new stuff and eventually move up again.

It dawned on me today that when we just cheerlead, nobody gets to take a step forward.
About the graywash…you have a very definite line between layers of color in areas. There doesn’t appear to be much gradation…not sure you were going for that look, though.
I watched a Mario Barth video on color blending and his suggestion was that when you…[Read more]

I can’t speak for everyone but I think an apprenticeship is a great thing. In that relationship there should be a teacher and a student. Not an asshole and a servant. It’s basic human 101. you don’t treat people like animals.
One of the first thing taught to my son in martial art was RESPECT. It goes both ways.

came together well.
I followed this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kflJALktUuU&feature=related and just made my own. What I found is the darker shades are really dark. I like the 12% wash best so far.

Welcome to the mix, Sinatra. This site (although they will tell you there is no replacement for an apprenticeship) has done quite a bit for me. Post up pictures of you work, take criticism as instructional, and ask a lot of questions. Oh, and buy the book that got most of us here. I’ve read it six or seven time now and the information I’ve…[Read more]

that’s a good first run. (better than mine was)
Did you rework some lines or did you slow down when you got to parts you thought might be tricky? Inconsistent line width would be the only “criticism” I’d have of this one. Even that is a stretch…color/shading will pull it all together nicely.

The face looks familiar. ;)
I like the idea, good stuff. Having seen your work I don’t think the shakes will be an issue when you go to clean it up.
