He really puffed up. He said he’s done that with all of his tattoos in the past, too. Again, not thrilled with the right legs but he wanted it like that.

Welcome to the board. I think, for me anyway, the more you put out there the more you will learn. (or atleast get a second set of eyes and some constructive criticism)

I like the idea of using a ‘hatch” style instead of flat shading. Gives it that comic book look for sure. You do nice work.

Nice. And thanks for the tip on using the shader only. Not sure why I feel there has to be a liner involved all the time.

Ricoh- probably just seat time is all you need. Like driving a new car…you miss some of the old familiarities of your last one but you know it’s an upgrade.
I REALLY like Tarantula’s idea. I’m a big fan of knowing how to get things right on your own. it’ takes a willingness to completely dismantle and recreate…which is scary sometimes if you…[Read more]

TexasPT replied to the topic Old English in the forum Design Ideas / Technique 13 years, 3 months ago
don’t look at lining something as easier or harder…just put the lines where they go. Old English will have tiny lines very close to one another, which is challenging sometimes if you don’t have a very steady hand yet. If you only have an 8r to work with I’d say consider how the lines will be on that lettering with that needle grouping.…[Read more]

you haven’t mentioned what they are doing, and what you want them to do differently.
You tune them like you would ANY machine…but the state of tune you put them into is going to be one of personal preference.
Now, if you said you want it to run faster and hit harder or have a shorter stroke there would be more available information. Right now…[Read more]

Things I’d check…
1. Needle depth under load. When the machine is off and you set it up, it may be 1.5mm or whatever you prefer. When you turn the machine on and put a thumb on the A bar you may find that it suddenly only pushes .3mm out past the tube. This could be an issue fixed by increasing voltage.
2. Hand speed vs. machine speed. Are…[Read more]

Love the eyes…the fact that you broke the lines and left it open in spots really works well in them.
Cool design and nice work

you have to have them on your hard drive. At the bottom of the page there is a tab that says “upload attachment”. Click it, click browse, find photo on your hard drive and it will put it in the window. Then click upload…

Hey Codyg, This board is a pretty good resource while you learn. I’d suggest picking up the book (basic fundamentals of tattoo) and read it 7 or 8 times. Lots of great information.
You’ll learn faster if you post pictures of your art, your practice, and your tattooing and then let others critique and give feedback.

Cool, man.
Hard to tell by the picture but you may want to slow your roll just a bit and make sure you get the colors all the way in. Looks like you have a lot of variance in shades of red. Again…it might just be the picture and how it is healing.
Since I struggled with this one a bit it’s the first thing I look for.
