So I got my coils today and put them on. Everything ran smooth, no visible defects, and I’m not at all unhappy being out $10 for the effort. That being said…they weigh about 4x what my other coils did. So much weight I couldn’t shade longer than 10 minutes on my practice skin before my hand started to cramp. Here is the link to…[Read more]

Thanks, Canvas. The plastic bobbin was the only “red flag” to me when i ordered them. So far they do everything I need them to. I had forgotten about Pulse…I remember reading about them.
After replacing springs yesterday with some quality springs they feel like new machines. I think the combo of springs and coils should be stressed a bit.…[Read more]

This ^^^ is Mario Barth talking about it. Good stuff.
The owner of this board has a pretty great video on the portal about it, too. https://www.teachmetotattoo.com/portal/tag/tutorial/
Hope these help a bit

Here is is after.
Negatives:
I had a small “hitch” in the upper part of the left wing. My shader died during and I am pretty sure I overworked some skin trying to make it work before switching to my liner to finish. Rather than continuing to overwork it we decided l have to go back in and retouch some color.
Positives:
I slowed down…this…[Read more]

LOL…I may end up with a set eventually.
This morning I took my shader. It wouldn’t run with less than 11 volts or a tiny little air gap and it when it did it sputtered. I took the coils off one of my spare machines that hasn’t been used. A few tweaks to adjust for minor height difference and now my shader runs SMOOTH with a nickle gap at 6…[Read more]

I saw one today but the guy wanted $40 for $27 coils…maybe I’m just cheap. :) My shader died tonight mid tattoo and I had to adjust my liner to finish. (liner coils have been replaced…go figure) I may have to buck up and make the purchase. :(

Very nice!
I’m a personal trainer. I make my own hours and that always includes plenty of time with my kids. At this point in my life I couldn’t imagine doing anything else…I love what I do.
Maybe when I retire I’ll apprentice. :)

Thanks for the input. I appreciate it a lot. To hear I’m headed in the right direction is a confidence booster. You are right on the speed I’m working…I need to slow down when I’m tattooing for sure. I’ve finally recognized it and fixing it. That is how I learn…do it, mess it up, don’t do it again. :)

I actually rested my tattooing hand so I could use it to help stretch. Her back had a lot of give in some spots so it was a three point stretch. A couple times, when the machine bogged, I felt like jacking up the voltage or tightening the contact screw…I resisted urges and ink went in well with no needle points really.
As far as holding steady,…[Read more]

Here is the after. This was a cover-up initially that was done poorly. Rather than make the outlines thick and cartoonish I decided to just put color in. I was able to cover the name completely. Used Violet, light violet, and magenta in the flowers and green and lime green in the stems. Did my best to soften up crappy shading that was there with…[Read more]

Thanks for taking the time to post. I agree 100% and thanks for the tip on stabilizing with the hand….I don’t think I do that now at all. I tried something I wasn’t comfortable with yet and I’m just not ready to gauge depth by feel. I’m going back to using the tube as a guide and getting consistent.

^^^^^^That was a great post^^^^^^^
I went to a tech school once for motorcycle mechanics. I learned more in 3 months under my “mentor” at the shop I worked at than I ever did in school. Am I going to get a tattoo apprenticeship? Nah…not my thing. But I’d agree that you can’t underestimate the value of someone willing to share their experience…[Read more]

I just don’t want to be a professional tattooist. I love what I do…this is more of a hobby for me. I just enjoy art and tattoos. I don’t want to work the hours the average artist works.
