I did a small bit of graywash already but didn’t want to blacken out the heart completely. When this is healed up I may end up making it a black heart with red highlights to cover it all. But like you said…it’s street worthy. Nobody who has seen the tattoo has noticed woody woodpecker peeking through. The running joke now is that I “covered my…[Read more]

That is a good friend to have. One of my good friends growing up went on to make a living out of tattooing. As he was progressing I was his canvas often. I managed a bar so I’d cover his tabs and he’d cover my skin. It’s cool to see the progression in his work on my skin, too. My wife’s best friend has an informal apprenticeship going on in…[Read more]

The Kanji looks clean. Nice work. Did you go to a round shader to fill or just stick with the liner?
You’re going to have a helluva time tattooing your own ass for that bodysuit. :)

Thanks. I had the before and after side by side on the screen here and felt pretty good about it. I guess I can be taught. :) I appreciate the input on the design…I think the white is going to be a nice touch when it all heals up.
I’ll try to run softer and be patient for a few runs to see what happens.

this is going to sound stupid…but I did it once…make sure you have the bend going the right way. If the bend is coming towards the machine…it’s backwards. If it towards the front of the tube…it seems great.

This afternoon I decided to fix my cover up. I used some of Kitchen Wizard’s ideas. Thanks, man.
I reworked all lines with a 14R liner and used a 7 mag for the color. Wish I had a 15 mag…would have been so much easier. I need to do some needle/tube shopping I guess. White was put in with a liner right next to the inner ring and between the…[Read more]

LOVE the bio mechanical stuff. I can honestly say I haven’t seen it on the heart yet…lots of forearms though.
What do you color with? Is it computer generated?

if he was wearing a condom…I’d see the irony. If not…he wouldn’t catch anything from a fresh tattoo he couldn’t get from her vagina.

Check the videos, Evan. There are a few where he’s doing portraits. Also just go to Youtube and search and watch and search and watch. There is tons of information out there.

the veins were an afterthought to try and clear up some space…this is just the rough draft. If it were tattooed on they would probably be buried under the “skin” of the heart with some shading to show depth…I’m not going to do the tattooing on this one. I’m just not there yet. :)

This video was very helpful. I was (am) struggling a bit with the same stuff. After watching this video I’ve practiced a bit, only on practice skin, but was able to really blend 1000x better than previously.

Thanks for the input. Making the circle and actual circle was at the top of the “to-do” list. I used a blue called “moonlight blue” from the kit I have. It is hard to tell in the initial picture but I shaded under and put the blue over…now that is mostly healed I think it has more of a gun-steel color to it.
I’m not unhappy with my first…[Read more]

I am going to have to disagree on tattooing being a lifestyle. Tattooing is art and art for many is a hobby. I’m one of those many. The only difference between me and the recreational painter or sculptor is that I have chosen to move beyond paints and pencils and try my hand at using flesh as canvas. And just like the first time I picked up a…[Read more]

Thanks for the input. Today I played again, both ways to see which was better. Not sure one was better than the other. I like seeing the needle with it further out but there is a “safety net” feeling of using the tube. I’ll keep practicing until one consistently feels better than the other.
I think what was messing up my lines (besides the…[Read more]

Cool, thanks. And I’m guessing you don’t go all the way to the tip? I had my needles, initially, about half that hex key and drug the tip along the skin (or practice skin). I found out today I have MUCH more control not doing that.

I remember the first picture. You did a great job finishing it up. I think, for myself anyway, correcting mistakes is going to be a big part of what we do initially.

This is what I covered up. Still have some peeking out…just an excuse to “build”on to this one. More reason to practice.
Oh…the coverup was my six year old’s design…so It gets cool points for that. :)
