I liked it a lot. It covers the basics without trying to teach you how to tattoo. It’s a foundation rather than a “how to” in my opinion. When you understand the basic concepts in the book it allows you to progress to the next stage in learning.

if you get the thumbnail but not the actual, there is probably a problem on your end. I know folks have gotten that before and it is usually a security setting or browser issue. There was another thread about image problems on here, too.

wow
You really do great work.
Initially I thought you traded a koi for a girl…and I was thinking, good trade.

welcome, Tom. This has been a great forum so far for me. Not any real attitude and everyone seems to be willing to teach what they know, share mistakes and how they were fixed, etc.

see my post on the other picture…skin looks like hamburger here. It may just be the picture…but at first glance I’d say you may be overworking the skin a bit. Overall it looks like a solid tattoo with room for improvement…but I’m always looking for ways to become better.

hard to tell really, but by looking at this picture and the last one you posted and reading your post on scabs…
look at the texture you have in the tattoo. Looks like you are chewing the skin up a bit. Like I said…really hard to tell on the pictures.
What size/type needles do you use?

Usually too deep, or overworking the skin. Scabbing happens now and then…some people just bleed more than others. I’ve found the more efficient I am with my tattooing the less likely there is to be scabs.

I’d say, speaking from experience, lay off of skin until you are more comfortable knowing exactly where your needle is going. You have a lot of “double vision” lines there…and it’s just form not being comfortable with where the needle exits your tube and being able to see and put it where you want.
Practice skins helped me with this.
It looks…[Read more]

Thanks…the bumps in the lines were just small scabs. When I washed it this morning they went away and it looks smoother than the picture. I tried whip-shading but I think my machine’s throw is too short to get a good effect. Time to build another machine! :)

I’m building my Intenze collection one bottle at a time and I’m working the Prizm out of the mix. Day and night difference. Fortunately I’m comfortable mixing primary colors to get what I want so I’m going to do well with the basics and some white I think.
Viper…I’m sure you’ll love them. I’ve never heard anything bad about them either.…[Read more]

I just started using Intenze and I’m sold. I put a rose on my thigh and now I’m upset because I’m going to have to go back over everything else on there because the intenze is SO much brighter. Incredible brightness.

welcome to the site. Cool artwork, for sure.
There are two paths to take. You can seek an apprenticeship and be taught by people who have experience (while working for free) or you can be a “scratcher” and do it yourself. One method is obviously a faster track with a mentor but both have produced incredible artists in the tattooing world.
