off to a good start. While you are new I’d suggest tattoos with smaller lines. Those long lines get real shaky in the beginning. As you progress you’ll be able to go back and clean those up no problem.

Lose the metal and go disposable…you’d have to buy 1,000 tubes to equal the cost of a good autoclave.

I think people need to focus more on blood borne pathogens and ALL the ways they can be transferred during the course of a tattoo rather than just how to sterilize when it’s over.

I’ve heard, and reserve my right to be wrong, that the plastic wrap was utilized initially so the client could see their tattoo and wouldn’t keep pulling the bandage to show their friends.

superior sells stencil pencils. They are about $2 each and you can draw on tracing paper and then use it like a spirit transfer paper stencil. It actually works pretty well but you have to keep the pencil sharp for detail. It’s an inexpensive alternative. I like candles in a picture like that. you can really make them any color you want, and create a “glow” around the flame or even a “smoke” effect that can create movement.

Color would have been cool, but I try to do something new every time I tattoo myself. I wanted to take a small stab at black and gray. I used a light enough wash that if I decide to come back over and do color it will still work out. I think a machine running that hot has a coil issue. First thing I’d do is drop a few bucks on a better set of coils. You probably have a break in the wire that isn’t enough to break continuity but it is enough to create heat. One of the downfalls of an inexpensive machine. Machines shouldn’t heat up like that.

I think i just have a good monitor…did some checking on pictures and most are650x500 or so. Not tiny, but I guess on a 17″ high-definition screen they look pretty good.
