I prefer to use an oring as it just sounds smoother but taking it off drops it by about a volt on my liner I reduced some of the spring tension on all three and got the loaded voltage down considerably so im going to order some thinner rear springs and as far as the caps go I was considering going to a 47 on my shader and a 33 on my packer my liner however is the one I am most concerned with getting the voltage down on I have the packer down to about 10 loaded and the shader to about 9.5 but the liner while I can get the voltage down more it has very little throw I run off the tips of the needles not the tube so I like it to have a nice throw and I cant get it down less than 10 to 10.5 loaded which still seems excessive it does have some give atthis voltage and isnt hitting excessively hard so my question is if the results are the same ie if the hit is the same and the throw is good and the machine runs smooth and doesnt cut out or get excessively hot does the voltage really matter I have noticed that versus my chinese knockoff g machine I had to really slow my hand speed down Im thinking this is because the chinese machine was probably 6 wrap shorty coils and the 44 magnum is 10 wrap which slows down the machine a lot if the coils werent so much taller on the 38 caliber 8 wrap I would swap coils plus I love the way the 38 packs in color btw I loaded a sterile needle and tube and set up like I was going to tattoo prepped an area on the back of my hand with hand sanitizer and green soap and set up run a couple of blood lines just to see the reaction in skin and about 10.2 seems to run the way I want it I dont like my liner to have much give as I dont really like it to bog while im lining as I have noticed it doesnt create as clean a line eg go over it and bog I will have to touch the line up or have to run the whole line again also I noticed i blow out lines when I bog as i will hit a less dense section of skin the needle will get full throw penetration and bam blowout thanks for taking time to read my ramble and thanks ramenuzumaki for taking the time to answer

try Irezumi or Kuro Sumi ink they will stay better than say starbrite never had any luck with starbrite near the hands. could also try talens or pelikan but some say they have shellac in them

the only kit ink i would use on skin is Radiant. if it is chinese or scream throw it away buy eternal waverly starbrite moms dynamic kuro sumi voodoo Irezumi ane get them from a reputable dealer or from the manufacturer if possible Intenze has been having a problem with people putting their labels on scream ink bottles so be careful most reputable inks will come sterilized I cannot say the same for chinese inks. be careful poor quality ink can cause severe reactions in people with allergies or sensitive skin also they will heal badly and dull so you will have to touch up over and over so extra pain for yourself or client . I would also recommend you practice with the ink you will be using in skin on fruit as inks have different consistencies and you will get a better results if when you go to skin you are already familiar with the characteristics of the ink needle and tube setup you are using if you are going to use disposables practice with them and leave ebay alone as far as ink needles tubes check out http://www.tattoomachineequipment.com

I know the feeling scratcher Im in the same boat aside form the fact that my first tattoo was done about three years ago in a shop under an artist. We had a falling out and i was on my own I will give you this advice dont buy anything on ebay especially needles and tubes unless it is fron technical international tattoo and try out the machines from hildbrandt the freeflow tubes and their needles arent bad either also you can get a gallon of green soap for $14 and a 16 oz tub of a&d for $7 from them

I agree with Nightmare but examine the throw on your liner make sure you can fit a dime between the contact screw and front spring as well as between the top of the coils and the armature bar. slow down your hand speed , make sure you are getting a good stretch on the skin, keep your tip at an angle into the skin and dont use too much vaseline or a&d

I agree larger needle grouping is more forgiving but also remember whether you are using a round or diamond tube make sure you are not pulling the needle away from the back of the tube because the tip and rubber bands guide the needle if you lift the needle off the back of the tube it will try to return to its resting place and cause you to get a shaky line. Keep your angle and depth steady. make sure your needle grouping sits to the back of the needle bar and it is not a bad idea to put a slight bend in the bar so the needle rides the back of the tube better and the rubber bands dont inadvertently lift the grouping off the back of the tube. so basically push the machine dont pull it make sure your tube is at a 45 degree angle to the skin and the machine is away from the direction you are moving .

I have heard neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment and aloe would dull or pull out color. I always tell em to put a very thin layer of a&d one to three times a day leave it on no more than 15 mins and wash it off for the first three days after three days use cocoa butter or a fragrance free lotion until healed. if you keep the ointment on more than 15 mins it seals bacteria into the tattoo and can cause infection it also make the scab thicker and doesnt allow air to get to the wound increasing healing time. it is better to use no ointment at all and dry heal the tattoo than to use too much ointment.

I love my hildebrandt machines I have the .44 magnum liner the .38 caliber color packer and .444 marlin soft shader no problems so far. I would recommend them to anyone even as a backup to their sharpz or fowler

Chinese knockoff machines may run but smoothly no and as far as your armature bar being aluminum NO aluminum is non ferrous and will not be attracted by a magnet. I have used chinese machines before and you get what you pay for disposable tubes are the same way tell ebay, amazon, tmart to go %#@& themselves if it is a kit you want try tattoomachineequipment.com and check out the hildebrandt kits try the Hildebrandt machines they cost about 50 bucks and are assembled in canada check out their freeflow tubes too also look at technical tattoo tts machines they have some powdercoated machines for 50 and up as far as kits go though you will pay out of the butt for spaulding and rogers but get good equipment as like i said you get what you pay for worldwide tattoo supply sells customizable kits but stay away from the lower priced machines always pay the extra for machines and the pigments stay as far away from scream ink as you can wouldnt recommend Immortal or Iron Butterfly either I wouldnt recommend Intenze ink unless ordered from Intenze themselves as there are so many fakes on the market for that brand mostly Scream with an Intenze label my choice would be radiant, eternal, moms, waverly, or dynamic check out technicals Philadelphia Eddies pigments as well some really nice oranges in there everyone cant start out with the money to drop 300 350 on a time machine or 280 340 on a micky sharpz 400+ on aaron cain technical has a machine I am coveting at the moment for 245 a brass sailor jerry bulldog

I personally do not like the starbrite for fill as it can be a beast to work in smooth and I also have found it does not do well near the hands I myself usually use Kuro Sumi however I have been trying out Irezumi from Technical it is bottled by Millenium Colors I love it nearly as much as my kuro in that regard if you dont care for the haze or kind of blue green black that sumi inks give then I would recommend Dynamic, MOMs Black Pearl, Eternal, or Intenze zuper black
