Not bad……a little shaky on the line work, shading could use a little help, but overall not too bad! Ill be interested to see the finished product with color.

I dont believe its going to thicken the line work so much as it will give the entire piece dimension. When you do this type of B&G you need to add the white highlights to make it pop and stand out. what kind of machine are you using? what are the volts? Whats the gap? How far out are you letting the needles hang out???? Lots of questions I know but this may help you out. Also post a pic of the machine it self if you can……

I redone a few machines with 22uf, 33uf, and 47uf….personally I like the 33uf best of them all for a color packer, and a 22uf for my liner….but that is just preference on my part…….

YES..a picture tells a thousand words. Im guessing here but I think what you have is likely a cheaper tip where instead of being drilled in the center its merely folded over or pressed into a round shape thus the groove. I could be way off on it but that sounds to me like what you telling us….

The only thing I dont really, fully agree with is the wrapping the power supply….I would imagine it gets extremely hot and could burn out or at the very least give it a premature death.
